Can't start your homework?
Make the first step so small it feels easy. Not "write the essay", but "open the document and type the title".
First step, right now: pick one piece of homework. Write down the first thing you would touch: a book, a file or a link.
Why starting is the hard part
"Do the homework" is a big, blurry job. Big, blurry jobs are hard to start. A step you can see is easier.
Make the step smaller
- Name the thing. "Open my French book at page 40", not "do French".
- Two minutes. If a step takes longer than two minutes, cut it in half.
- Put it in front of you. Get the book out, open the file. Then stop if you want to.
- Write the question at the top. Copying the question out is a real start.
- Stopping is allowed. Ten minutes done is ten minutes more than none.
How Stoodo helps
Stoodo (stoodo.app) is a study app for UK A level students aged 15 and over, designed for students who find it hard to start. Send in your homework and it finds each task, its due date and one small first step.
- Add a photo or a screenshot. In Stoodo, tap Add and choose up to 6 photos or a PDF. Or paste the message.
- Forward the email. You get your own Stoodo address, like sam.k7m@in.stoodo.app. Forward any email with homework in it. It only takes emails from your own addresses: the one you sign in with, and others you confirm with a 6-digit code.
- The iPhone shortcut. Set it up once in Settings, under Ways to send things in. Then share a photo, PDF or text from any app straight to Stoodo.
Today shows what's next. Done, Did some and Missed are one tap each. There are no streaks and no "you missed a day".
Stoodo doesn't do the homework. Ask Claude gives hints, not answers. Stoodo uses Claude, an AI model by Anthropic.
